Capturing Speed, Precision & the Spirit of Racing
In 2024, Alt Lodge Co. had the privilege of working with James Hillier, one of the most respected and experienced riders at the Isle of Man TT. Our goal was to create a high-energy web video series that would immerse audiences in his journey through the world’s most legendary road race. From the intensity of race days to the unseen moments of preparation, the series was designed to bring fans closer to the action than ever before.
James Hillier wanted a visually immersive, documentary-style series that would take viewers beyond the racetrack and into the heart of his experience at the Isle of Man TT. The aim was to engage both dedicated TT fans and new audiences by capturing the emotion, discipline, and high-stakes nature of competing at one of the most dangerous and thrilling motorcycle races in the world.
The project required a combination of cinematic storytelling, real-time action footage, and intimate behind-the-scenes content. The series needed to showcase not just the race itself but also the relentless dedication, mental and physical preparation, and personal moments that define a TT racer’s experience.
To bring this vision to life, Alt Lodge Co. developed a multi-episode web series, released on YouTube, that followed James Hillier’s 2024 TT campaign. Each episode was carefully crafted to provide a mix of high-octane race sequences and raw, unfiltered moments from his journey.
Dynamic race footage was captured using high-speed cameras, drone cinematography, and on-bike perspectives to immerse viewers in the unparalleled speed and precision required for TT racing. Slow-motion visuals and aerial shots provided dramatic context, highlighting the breathtaking scale of the course and the skill of the riders navigating its challenges.
The series also offered unprecedented access to James Hillier’s world off the track. Through behind-the-scenes interviews, training sessions, and candid interactions with his team, viewers gained a deeper understanding of what it takes to compete at this level. The storytelling emphasized not just the race itself but the emotions, pressures, and triumphs that define a rider’s TT experience.
By balancing adrenaline-pumping action with personal storytelling, the series created an emotional connection between James and his audience, giving fans a new appreciation for the physical and mental endurance required to take on the TT.
The video series quickly gained traction, attracting strong engagement across social media and digital platforms. The combination of high-production-value footage and authentic storytelling resonated with viewers, drawing in not only motorsport enthusiasts but also those unfamiliar with the Isle of Man TT.
The series successfully elevated James Hillier’s online presence, helping him reach new audiences while strengthening his connection with existing fans. By offering an inside look into his journey, the content provided a fresh and compelling perspective on one of the most challenging and exhilarating motorcycle races in the world.
Working with James Hillier during the 2024 Isle of Man TT was an incredible experience for the Alt Lodge Co. team. From the very start, we knew this project was going to be something special—not just for us as filmmakers and storytellers, but for James himself and his fans. Our goal was to push the boundaries of digital storytelling in motorsport, capturing the raw intensity of the TT while giving viewers an unprecedented look into the life of a top rider.
From a production standpoint, this was one of the most demanding but rewarding shoots we’ve undertaken. The TT is unlike any other motorsport event in the world—there’s no controlled environment, no second chances, and the pace is relentless. Filming a rider like James Hillier meant we had to adapt quickly, working in high-pressure conditions while making sure we captured every crucial moment. We combined high-speed cinematography with immersive on-bike footage, drone perspectives, and raw behind-the-scenes storytelling to give fans a completely new experience of the TT.
The biggest breakthrough was in James’ digital presence. Before this series, much of his online content was focused on race results and traditional motorsport media coverage. Our web series transformed that by bringing a more personal, in-depth, and cinematic approach to his story. We gave fans unprecedented access—not just to his performance on the track, but to his mindset, training, and the emotions that come with competing in the world’s most intense road race.
The response was beyond what we could have hoped for. Engagement skyrocketed across social platforms, and the YouTube series became a hub for both die-hard TT fans and newcomers discovering the sport. Comments flooded in from viewers who felt like they were experiencing the TT from a whole new perspective—something we set out to achieve from day one.
For us, this project wasn’t just about filming another motorsport series; it was about evolving how riders connect with their audiences. Motorsport has traditionally relied on mainstream media coverage, but with digital storytelling and direct engagement, we’ve helped James take control of his narrative and showcase his journey in a way that’s never been done before.
The Isle of Man TT is a race built on passion, risk, and absolute commitment—qualities that resonate deeply with our team at Alt Lodge Co. Being a part of James’ journey and helping redefine how his story is told has been an unforgettable experience. This project set a new benchmark for us, and we can’t wait to push the limits even further in the future.
